The GF&CO OTOA
VERMONT SUMMER INTENSIVE
2015

AUGUST 16 - 22
PUTNEY, VERMONT

GF&CO was built upon an ensemble of theater artists dedicated to the principles and investigation of putting One-Thought-One-Action -into action, and through GF&CO the further development and experimentation of the technique has continued to grow. The Vermont Summer Intensive will provide an occasion for new and old OTOA participants to work with GF&CO members in the established methods of OTOA as well as contribute to its further development.

The VT Intensive will be a week long period of study and exploration for OTOA veterans and novices alike, set in the beautiful hills of Putney, Vermont, on the campus of The Putney School.

This intensive study will offer a deeper penetration and focus into the OTOA Technique than has ever been offered before. We will review the practical tools and principles of OTOA, and experiment with new exercises and applications within a broader context.

The VT Intensive will provide an opportunity to participate with GF&CO members in the methods and development of OTOA. It is also meant as a focused retreat for refreshing and reviving creative passion, as well as explore questions of craft and career as we consider our artistic life-practice. And all set in the tranquil surrounding of Vermont's green mountains!

Click Here for details and to determine whether you qualify to join us on this exceptional week of study, lab-like examination of OTOA and Creative Life-Practice.

O.REX NOVEMBER 5 - 21 2014

GF&CO's First Main Stage Production

O.REX

The Original Murder Mystery!

Is a brand new translation of Sophocles' Oedipus Rex,
Re-envisioned by director and co-translator, Gia Forakis,
As a site-specific, full immersion, Greek-Noir* Classic
With original music and song.

*Greek Noir = Greek Tragedy + Film Noir: a new genre coined by GF&CO.

In Sophocles' play, Oedipus Rex, Oedipus is a King who must save his city from plague by solving the mystery of the murder of his predecessor, Laius. What Oedipus discovers is that he is Laius' son as well as his murderer, and that Oedipus' wife, Jocasta, is also his mother!

In GF&CO’s Greek-Noir O.REX, Oedipus in no longer a royal King, but rather, a "Kingpin" and nightclub owner – the unwitting detective to a murder he doesn't know he committed. In this production, the audience is seated at nightclub tables as this legendary drama unfolds around them and as the nightclub is transformed into the world of a 1940's film noir: actors dressed in black & white, drinks served to prevent symptoms of “The Plague," and traditional Choral Odes re-invented as original songs performed as period ballads on the nightclub stage.

The innovation of GF&CO’s Greek-Noir O.REX brings a fresh contemporary relevance to this ancient text, first by reminding us that putting limits on our own hubristic natures is a critical lesson for survival in any century, second by creating a new translation that maintains Sophocles’ play while creating an action-driven framework that makes this renowned classic immediately accessible to a new generation of theater goers!

MESSAGE FROM GIA FORAKIS - SALON SERIES

Dear Friends of GF&CO:

It has been 5 months since our wonderfully successful Staged Reading Event of Love in Space-Time in November 2011. Since that time, a lot has been in the works. Our Company Members have been busy performing regionally and on Broadway, appearing on television and in films, and much more.

Recently, I was very proud to have directed the critically-acclaimed run of the original, multi-media opera, Song from the Uproar, composed by Missy Mazzoli, and performed at the Kitchen in NYC. And now, I am eager to share with you our very exciting and super ambitious SALON SEASON 2012!

GF&CO’s Work-in-Progress Showings of scenes from 3 Greek Tragedies within a Film Noir framework. Creating a revolutionary new genre we are calling: GREEK-NOIR

As some of you already know GF&CO’s Signature Salon Season are exclusive, invitation only, free events where GF&CO Member Actors put the unique and revolutionary performance technique, One-Thought-One-Action™, into ACTION. The Salons give us an opportunity to share our ongoing development and application of the technique while exploring and experimenting with various texts in an intimate social setting, followed by wine, light refreshments, and stimulating dialogue between our guests and our Company Members.

The idea of an entire Salon Season devoted to exploring scenes from The Greeks was actually suggested to me by one of GF&CO’s devoted patrons who knew of my current ongoing directorial investigation of Oedipus Rex with NYC theater company, Extant Arts. The minute this particular theme-driven Salon Season was recommended to me I knew the idea it was an excellent way to frame our second Salon Series!

To this end, I am framing our explorations as an investigation into the origins of the original “femme fatales” of the theater. With the combination of GF&CO’s ensemble of superlative OTOA trained (and training) actors, plus scenes from three well known Greek tragedies, and our unique lab-like Salon environment, I am certain that our experiments in these ancient Hellenic Myths as viewed through the framework of classic film noir will be something you won’t want to miss!

With space limited to 30 people per evening, it’s never too soon to reserve your seat(s).

Let us welcome you to Java Hauz in this, our second Salon Season. As always, we invite you to share in the conversation as we endeavor to keep theater relevant in the 21st century!

With Joy & Inspiration!

Gia Forakis,
Artistic Director
GIA FORAKIS & COMPANY
Re-Envisioning Theater, One Thought and One Action at a Time
